Jocelyne (Roy) Phillips

Jocelyne PhillipsI was born and raised in Hull, Quebec (now Gatineau) and moved to a farm in Luskville, Quebec (now Pontiac) when I was seventeen years old. I ended up buying the farm with my husband and lived there for 35 years growing a successful equestrian business of show hunters and jumpers.

I have always been interested in art whether it was dancing (classical ballet for 14 years), music (I composed and sang my own songs), and photography. I also dabbled in oil painting, mostly self-taught, and ended up being commissioned to paint dog and horse portraits. My art has always come straight from the heart as I was never taught any techniques.

After losing all inspiration to art during a rough time in my marriage, I recently took it up again but this time painting mainly birds on pieces of wood found on the beach. I like the close relationship of the birds with the wood. Since I live close to North Beach Park, I walk the beach almost every day, taking pictures and gathering potential wood pieces along the way.

I'm so glad I found this way of expressing myself again and hope you will enjoy my pieces as well.
