Kate Golding

Kate Golding Turkey Vulture wallpaper

I am a surface pattern designer specializing in wallpaper and textile design. My designs are inspired by my surroundings and feature flora, fauna, birds, landmarks and architecture. I like to explore to find inspiration and make sketches and notes on new pattern ideas. I then work from my sketches on layered transparencies on my light table using brushes, ink and fine line pens. All layers are then brought into my computer to create the motifs and repeat patterns. It is a lengthy but rewarding process and the resulting designs have an almost screen-printed feel to them with organic registration and a hand drawn feel.

Since finishing my Fine Art degree in the year 2000, I always wanted to design wallpaper. Finally following my dreams, I launched my design business and have created a small line of textile products, a collection of wallpaper produced in collaboration with a Montreal based company and I have a second collection of wallpaper launching very soon. My products have garnered the attention of The Globe and Mail, House and Home magazine, the CBC and recently Sophie Grégoire Trudeau recognized my wallpaper in her interview with Jeanne Beker about Canadian Style. //
