Susan Wallis is a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and a certificate in Design from Sheridan College. Wallis began practicing the ancient medium of encaustic painting in 2002. The term encaustic comes from the Greek word "enkaustikos", which means, "to burn in" and refers to the ancient medium of mixing molten wax with oil pigment.
Wallis has refined her encaustic technique over the years and has developed a body of work that is now internationally collected. At present she is represented across Canada by galleries in Toronto, Montreal, Canmore, Alberta and Whistler, BC. Wallis is a resident of Cherry Valley, Prince Edward County and is represented exclusively in the County at Mad Dog located on East Lake.
Wallis is the featured artist at the Manse Boutique Inn in Picton. In 2011 she collaborated with local chef Cynthia Peters to produce the "Art of Herbs" Cookbook distributed in bookstores and galleries across Canada including the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. Wallis' encaustic paintings adorn the pages of this unique book.
Currently Wallis is exploring sculpture and photography and is opening with her husband a unique Bed & Breakfast retreat in Cherry Valley in August 2012.
